Karl R. Salzsieder, DVM, JD, CVA

Karl Salzsieder is an accredited valuation analyst working as a practice valuator and practice management consultant for veterinarians for over 20 years, representing buyers and sellers. He currently owns a law practice and a multi-doctor small animal practice as an absentee owner. His 37 years of veterinary practice includes owning over 10 different practice sites and being a large corporate practice area manager and the first owner of a corporate charter practice. This experience allows him to accurately value and/or assist owners in raising practice value.

Before veterinary school he graduated from WSU with a major in agriculture economics. After 11 years of practice ownership he attended night law school and became a licensed attorney in WA and OR. He has developed a management software program for practice owners to raise their practice profits and practice sales values. He implements this program through the internet and consults the practice teams weekly on conference calls to help owners make changes as needed.

His non veterinary business interests include buying and selling real estate, including rental houses apartment houses and commercial real estate. He owns Salzsieder Consulting and Legal Services in Longview, WA, where he and his associate attorney work in the areas of business and real estate transactional law (sales documents, sales contract issues and employment contracts), estate planning, probate and bankruptcy law.

He lectures at WSU and OSU annually to the veterinary students on management, law, practice ownership and employment contracts. He lectures at one or two veterinary conferences most years, including NAVC, CVC Central and CVC West, Wild West Veterinary Conference in Reno, WSVMA, OVMA. He is on the Veterinary Economics Advisory Board and has many articles published each year in the magazine.

He and his wife Derene have three children. He has been active in civic activities in Longview, WA as past president of the Longview Rotary Club, the Longview Chamber of Commerce and Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He is a member of the WSVMA, AVMA, WSBA, OSBA and his small animal practice, Yelm Veterinary Hospital is an accredited AAHA hospital.
